On the occasion of announcements of this investments in the industrial zone of “Donje Medjurovo”, Prof Dr Igor Novakovic, Palilula Municipality president, said: “Our projections and development plans, outlined in the strategies of the municipality, is realizing. In these two new factories it will be opened near 1900 jobs. With “Strategic analysis - strategic development plan”, which was adopted by our Municipality in year 2008, we profiled our Municipality on the European model, which the unit of local self-government determined not only as an administrative service of the local community, nor and a partner who actively and effectively participate in the resolution of all problems of the community emphasized President Novakovic. “We started from the fact that the influence of local authorities in local economic development is very important. Local governments can establish more direct relationship with citizens, help them to motivate and initiate the creation of private-public arrangements and partnerships, thus creating an attractive environment for investment and new projects. We estimate that the exit from the difficult economic situation requires a strategy of development of local economy, which will have a “approach based on resource”. The most important resources that we have in the Palilula Municipality on which we build our strategy for the local economy are: natural, economic and human resources. In addition to the real problems today in the territory of the Palilula Municipality there is a number of successful companies that do business based on the modern market economy and employ a significant number of workers. Our advantages for the development of economic activities are: the existence of production facilities and the availability of labor, the willingness of Municipality to help small and medium-sized enterprises, ecologically healthy environment, the vicinity of Corridor 10 and good transportation connectivity” - Novakovic said. Palilula Municipality is a development oriented municipality. Economic development is realized through investment that can be done in different ways. Most comprehensive are certainly "greenfield" investments, such as work zone Donje Medjurovo and "brownfield" as an area of the company “Vulkan” and “Elektronska industrija”. Except of opportunity to offer space to potential investors for greenfield investments, Palilula Municipality, in terms of economic development, reviews and other investment opportunities to ensure the competitiveness of local economies. South Korean company Iura Corporation, which already has a factory in Raca will invest in Nis seven million euros and the Italian company that produces special fluid for automotive industry 4.2 million euros. “ Iura” is one of the world leaders in the manufacture of systems for electronic distribution in the automotive industry. The company employs more than 50,000 people and in 2009. achieved a turnover of about 700 million euros on the level of all Group. This company purchased in Serbia “Zastava Elektro” for about 3 million euros. And in the “Elektronska industrija”, it is expected that by the end of the year to be opened “Technology park” as a group of companies that operate in a territory. Except to the three companies that have achieved business activity and which will employ about 150 workers, the business in the new “Technology Park” announced the two more companies.
The City of Nis is the first city in Serbia which is by making a elaborate, under a new law on planning and on base of building regulations of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, which provides conceding city building land to investors free of charge, provided a significant investment and new jobs.
